Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a referral?
No referral is required to see a psychologist. However, a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP allows you to claim Medicare rebates, significantly reducing your out-of-pocket costs.
How long until I can get an appointment?
We typically have appointments available within 1-2 weeks. Book online to see our current availability, or call us on 0474 648 500 to discuss urgent needs.
What type of therapy do you use?
We use evidence-based psychological therapies such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and trauma-informed approaches. Therapy is tailored to your individual needs, goals, and circumstances.
Do you see children or teenagers?
Our psychologists work exclusively with adults (18 and over). We don't currently offer services for children or adolescents. If you're looking for support for a young person, your GP is a good starting point - they can provide a referral to a child or adolescent psychologist in your area.
Do you have experience with chronic illness / medical trauma / complex cases?
Yes. Supporting people living with chronic illness, medical trauma, and complex health-related experiences is a key focus of our work. Our health psychologists understand the close connection between physical and mental health and take a compassionate, trauma-informed approach.
Can I see a psychologist for a WorkCover claim?
Yes. Lawrence & Co accepts WorkCover referrals for psychological support for both physical and psychological injury claims, including Adjustment to Injury Counselling. Please contact us before booking to confirm your claim details and ensure we can meet your requirements.
Can I choose my psychologist?
Yes, you can choose the psychologist you feel most comfortable with. You’re welcome to read about each psychologist on the Our Team page and select your preferred clinician when booking online. If you’re unsure who might be the best fit, we’re happy to help guide you.
What happens in the first session?
Your first session is about getting to know you and understanding your concerns. We'll discuss what brought you to therapy, your goals, and develop an initial treatment plan together. There's no pressure - we work at your pace in a confidential, judgment-free space.
Is everything confidential?
Yes. Everything discussed in therapy remains strictly confidential except in rare circumstances where there's risk of harm to yourself or others, or if required by law. We'll explain confidentiality limits clearly in your first session, and you're always in control of your information.
Take the First Step
Whatever brought you here, we're glad you came.
